Alfreda "Alfie" Newman of Grahamsville died Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Vassar Brothers Hospital. She was a retired teacher's aid of 34 years for Tri-Valley school district.

Alfreda was born on May 18, 1939 to Leslie D. Sheley and Edna VanWagner Sheley. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, gardening, baking, watching NASCAR and the NY Yankees and was interested in American Indian Culture.

She was widowed by her husband, Ronald J. Newman. She is survived by one son, Keith Kristoff of Napanoch; three daughters: Danita Kristoff and companion, Al Spence of Grahamsville, Ronda Newman of Grahamsville and Cora Newman and her companion, Ron DeGraw of Neversink; two grandchildren, Brandon Joseph Vogler and Danielle Amanda Graham; one sister, Verna Amundsen of Grahamsville as well as several nieces.

Visitation will take place on Saturday August 25 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Loucks Funeral Home, 79 North Main Street, Ellenville, NY. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home. Rev. Larry Powell will officiate and interment is to follow at Grahamsville Rural Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Alfie's name may be sent to St. Joseph's Indian School, P.O. Box 500, Chamberlain, SD 57325-0500.
