Bertram R. Newman

Bertram R. Newman of Honk Hill, Napanoch, NY passed away on Friday May 20, 2016. Bert was born on March 1, 1933 in Ellenville NY to Katherine Burhans and Leslie Newman.

 

Bert graduated from Ellenville High School and then went to work for Ellenville Wholesale, and later joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany where he drove tanks and loved it.

 

He worked 26 years for the Eastern Correctional Facility, retiring in 1983. He continued his business of trucking and excavation until last year.

 

Bert was predeceased by his brother Joe Newman and his sister Rachel Lake.

 

Bert had one son with his first wife Josie Lou, Steven and his wife Tammy, of Waldorf, Maryland.  He had 4 step children with his present wife Mary “Mike”, Arlie DuBois and his wife Phoebe, Michael DuBois and his wife Bridget, Jack DuBois and his wife Cherie and Marcia “Jeanne” Kennedy. Together Bert and Mike have 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

 

Bert was the most loving husband, father, and papa ever. Bert was the kindest person you could ever meet. He would help anyone at any time. He had his own business of trucking and excavating. He hooked up water systems and dug septic systems. If you could pay, it was okay and if you couldn’t pay, that was okay too. He never had a bad word for anyone and he never got mad at anyone.

 

A viewing will be held at Loucks funeral home in Ellenville, NY on Tuesday, May 24th from 6-8 pm.  A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 25th at 11 am at Furman Cemetery in Yagerville NY.
