Betty Lou Distel (Louie), a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Ellenville Regional Hospital. She was 78 years old. Betty was born on February 17, 1945, in Ellenville—her beloved hometown; she was the daughter of the late Isaac Williams and Ferne Strickland.

Family was at the core of Betty's life—a fact that was evident in everything she did. From the moment she woke up until the moment she went to bed, her family held a special place in her heart. Betty's selflessness and unwavering love meant that she always put her family first.

Betty graduated from Ellenville High School with the Class of 1963. She worked as a school bus driver for Rolling V in Ellenville and dedicated many years to safely transporting children to and from school until her well-deserved retirement.

Betty's impact on those around her extended beyond just her immediate family. She leaves behind precious memories cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her warm smile and kindhearted nature made everyone feel welcome in her presence.

Remembered for her caring spirit and love for others, Betty is survived by her childhood sweetheart and loving husband, Bernard "Butch" Distel whom she married on January 9, 1965.

Betty adored her children: Ferne Distel, Donald Distel, and Christopher Distel and his wife Jennifer. The memories they shared with their mother will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

Betty's role as a grandmother brought immense joy into her life. She leaves behind three grandchildren: Donald Corso, Paige Cotto, and Dylan Corso—each one bringing their own unique light into her world. In addition to being a proud grandmother, Betty experienced the incredible joy of becoming a great-grandmother to Alana Marie and Aaliyah Jade. She was also a wonderful aunt to several nieces and nephews.

Family gatherings were always filled with laughter and love when Betty was present. Her sister Carol Knapp and her companion Fred Yerkins and her brother Donald Williams and his wife Kathy will miss her dearly.

Betty was known for her unwavering loyalty, not just to her family but also to her faithful canine companion, Rocky. Their bond was a testament to the unconditional love she had to offer.

Betty has been reunited with her parents and her sisters Gloria Butler, Joan Lewis and Norma Shamro who all passed before her.

To honor Betty's rich and meaningful life, a memorial gathering will take place from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Loucks Funeral Home located at 79 N Main St in Ellenville, NY. A Celebration of her life will begin at 3:30. These events will provide an opportunity for friends and family to come together, share stories, memories, and find solace in each other's company.

As we bid farewell to Betty L. Distel, let us remember the incredible legacy she leaves behind—a legacy of love, selflessness, and devotion. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts and the memories we shared with her will continue to bring us comfort in times of sadness.
