It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Christine Van Leuven, a lifelong resident of Ellenville, New York, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2026. She was 72 years old.

Born in Ellenville on August 26, 1954, to the late Bernard Stickles and Dorothy Schoeppler, Christine was gifted with a heart dedicated entirely to caring for others. A natural caretaker from a young age, Christine selflessly stepped up during high school following the sudden passing of her father to help raise and nurture her siblings. That deep-seated compassion led her to a fulfilling career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), where her gentle touch, patience, and warmth comforted countless patients throughout her career.

In 1978, Christine met the love of her life, Thomas Van Leuven. After twenty wonderful years together, they officially tied the knot in 1998, building a beautiful life rooted in deep partnership, mutual devotion, and quiet joy.

Christine found beauty in the simple pleasures of life. She loved tending to her garden, coaxing vibrant blooms from the earth, with a special fondness for Mandevilla and Morning Glories. In the kitchen, she carried on her mother’s legacy, pouring love into every meal she prepared—especially her famous homemade meatloaf and eggplant.

Some of her fondest memories were made during family trips to Lake George. She cherished long, peaceful walks along the water and staying up late by the campfire until 1:00 a.m. with Thomas, sharing a cold brew, talking, and enjoying each other’s company.

Above all, Christine valued togetherness. Nothing brought her greater comfort than watching a movie with her husband and daughter—to Christine, it never mattered what was playing on the screen, only that they were sitting together as a family.

Christine is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas Van Leuven; her cherished daughter, Nicole Van Leuven; her brother, Stephen Stickles; her sister, Josephine Alequin; and her dear nieces and nephews, Alayana Stickles, Sarina Alequin, and Stephen Stickles, Jr. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Dianna Denman (and her husband, Jim) and Cathy Van Leuven.

In addition to her parents, Christine was predeceased by her loving sisters, Judith "Judy" Stickles and Lorie Stickles.

Christine’s legacy of unconditional love, warmth, and devotion to family will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A visitation will take place at Loucks Funeral Home, 79 North Main Street, Ellenville, NY 12428 on Tuesday October 27, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
