Florence Mary Dowling

Florence Mary Dowling of Niantic, CT, formerly of Ellenville, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was 91.

She was the daughter of the late LeRoy Julius Marks and Elizabeth Butzer, born on January 28, 1926 in Kingston, NY. Florence married Robert James Dowling in Ellenville on September 4, 1948.

She worked as a registered nurse for Ellenville Medical Group before she retired. She loved her work, and the doctors and nurses with whom she worked.

Florence was an avid golfer, and cherished her time on the course with Bob and friends.  Everyone who met Flo soon learned that she and Bob each had two holes-in-one. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and former first-lady of Ellenville.

Florence loved laughter, family, friends and her beloved cats.  She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her children, Patricia K. Dowling, PhD of Mahwah, NJ, Barbara Kanter and her husband, Eric of Niantic, CT; nephews: Michael, Richard, John and William Marks, and Edward, Thomas, and Wayne Dowling and niece, Bonnie Dowling; as well as grandnephews and grandnieces. She was lovingly cared for by dear friends, Jean and Tom Bowlen and Linda Morey. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert in 2015, and her brothers, John Newman Marks and George LeRoy Marks.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7 at Loucks Funeral Home, 79 North Main St. Ellenville, NY 12428. A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fantinekill Cemetery.
