Florence Mary "Sally Mc Dowell" Van Etten

Florence Mary Van Etten, also known as Sally Mc Dowell, died at home on the family farm on Friday, December 9, 2016 at the age of 81.

She was born December 2, 1935 in Spring Glen, NY to Cleon Kelly and Bernice Louise Mc Dowell.

She was raised by her grandparents and lived her entire life on the family farm on Briggs Highway that has been in her family for 8 generations. She was a part of Dairy Lee Cooperative well into the late sixties and then created and was a proprietor of Mc Dowell’s Fishing on Cape Pond which remains the family business.

She is survived by her partner Richard Rypkema of forty-three years who lovingly cared for her until the end; her children: Susan Madeline Stone and her husband John of Newburgh, NY, Louise Marie Di Carluccio and her husband Anthony of Summitville, NY; her grandchildren: Roland Van Etten, Sally Stone, Florence Madeline Williams and Marilda Marianna Di Carluccio; as well as three great-grandchildren: Triniti, Jordyn and Allyson. She is predeceased by her son Richard Earl Van Etten in 1980; her greatest heartache and her beloved sister Doris Gilmore in 2014.

She was a private woman and requested that there be no services following her cremation and her ashes to be returned to the family farm.
