Francis M. Mason

Francis Michael “Frank” Mason passed away Friday, October 14, 2016 at the Ellenville Regional Hospital at age 76.  He was born and raised in Manhattan’s Yorkville neighborhood.  He studied theater at the Herbert Berghof Studio and was employed with the John Kenley Players in production and performance.  He also was an amateur artist, jazz enthusiast, and New York sports fanatic.  He also boxed on the amateur level as a welterweight and followed the sport closely throughout his life.  Frank moved up to the Shawangunk Valley in the late sixties at the height of the Bortsch Belt entertainment circuit and tended bar at the Nevele Resort, among other hotels in the area.  He then worked at VAW Aluminum, which became Hydro Aluminum, for over twenty years.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor McCann Mason of Ellenville; son, Kevin F. Mason of Manhattan; stepson Dylan Steeg (Mu-En); step grandchildren Ethan, Carolyn, and Nathaniel Steeg of Fremont, California.  He also leaves behind nieces Rosemary Bergin of Manhattan, Charlotte Cichy of Pennsylvania, Shannon Bergin of Washington State and Stacey Inturrisi of the Bronx and nephew Matthew Heerey (Susan) of PA.  He was pre-deceased by brothers Richard and Matthew Mason, and sister Mildred Heerey.

Memorial visitation will be held at Loucks Funeral Home, 79 N. Main St., Ellenville from 12pm-2pm on Saturday, October 22, 2016 with a service beginning at 1pm.
