Hilda E. Peters

Hilda E. Peters passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025, in her home in Cragsmoor, NY. 

Hilda, affectionately called "Tilly", was born August 29, 1926, in Cragsmoor, NY to Edith Cruver and Leonard Marl, Jr. Her father was one of 14 siblings, so Hilda grew up surrounded by a large colorful and hard working extended family. Her early years were spent in Cragsmoor, then about the age of eight her father purchased a working cow farm in Pine Bush, NY and the family moved from Cragsmoor to Pine Bush. It was on the farm that Hilda developed her strong and lifelong work ethic, often working alongside her father with the daily physical tasks farming required. It was also on the farm her love of nature and the outdoors was further deepened and nurtured. As a female growing up in the 1930s and 1940s, Hilda was not limited to stereotypes; she had to learn many things to contribute to her family and develop as a self-sufficient person. Common sense was at the core of her being and guided her throughout her long life. 

On April 3, 1954, she married Charles Ralph Peters who became her best friend and lifelong partner. They worked beautifully alongside each other with love and respect, raising 2 children, building 2 homes, and sharing many common interests and hobbies together. 

Hilda is survived by her son, Ralph Peters; daughter, Carolyn Peters-Baker and her husband Roger Baker; nephew, Richard Marl; brother in-law, Dick Peters and his wife Pat Peters; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and siblings. 

A special thank you and acknowledgement to her favorite cousin, Connie Hornbeck, who was a very important friend throughout her life; Jeanie Brown, who helped care for her in her final years; her friends, Joyce Stedner, Chris and Wayne, the Cragsmoor Library, and the friends she made from the library get togethers. 

A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, November 29th at noon at Fantinekill Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at On the Rocks Restaurant 3984 Route 52 Cragsmoor from 2pm-4:30pm, where we invite friends and family to gather.
