In Loving Memory of Leon Humberto Aguirre Jr.

December 7, 1987 – July 31, 2025

With deep sorrow and unwavering faith in God’s promise, the family of Leon Humberto Aguirre Jr. announces his peaceful passing on July 31, 2025, in Poughkeepsie, NY. Leon, age 37, of Ellenville, NY, was a devoted husband, loving father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.

Born on December 7, 1987, at Harris Hospital in Thompson, NY, Leon was the beloved son of Maria Orfa Lopez-Rivera and the late Leon Aguirre Sr. He graduated from Ellenville High School and spent his life dedicated to the service of others as a personal assistant. Leon’s gentle strength, kind heart, and joyful spirit touched every life he encountered.

Leon had a special passion for sports and a keen interest in the stock market—interests he enthusiastically shared with those he loved. He was known for his laid-back nature, quick wit, and unwavering optimism. He never rushed, and he never allowed himself to be rushed—he moved through life at his own peaceful pace, bringing calm wherever he went. He had a way of making people feel safe, heard, and uplifted. His laughter could fill a room, and his presence brought comfort and joy.

Above all, Leon cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Latoya Calhoun, and their adored daughter, Lyona Aguirre, who was the light of his life. The special pinky promises and handshakes they shared will remain treasured forever.

Leon is also survived by his devoted mother, Maria Orfa Lopez-Rivera; his siblings, Diana Taborda, Luis Lopez, and Jorge Lopez; and their spouses; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was also deeply loved by his in-laws, who he embraced as his own.

Leon is now reunited in eternal peace with his father, Leon Aguirre Sr. The family finds comfort in knowing that father and son are together again, held in God’s eternal embrace.

A private memorial service will be held to celebrate his life, and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you lift up prayers in his memory.

We will always remember his beautiful smile, his deep belief in lifting others up, and his sincere desire to see everyone around him succeed. His spirit remains with us, and his love will never fade. His memory will live on in every smile he inspired, every heart he touched, and every act of kindness done in his honor. His love endures—and always will.
