Magary Blythe

June 18, 1941 — March 16, 2024

Magary Blythe 82 of Poughkeepsie, NY peacefully transitioned into the Arms of her Heavenly Father on Saturday March 16, 2024.  Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

June 1941 was just an ordinary month until the 18th, in New York City, when God decided to shake things up by bringing into existence a phenomenal woman, Magary the eldest daughter of the late David and Magary Nixon.

At an early age the family relocated to Ellenville, NY.

Magary graduated from Ellenville High School. She continued on and received her license as a Cosmologist. Later on in her life she furthered her education receiving a AAS from BMCC, majoring in Business Administration. She also attended classes in business, technology and marketing.

During her journey she was employed and then retired from Verizon as a Facility Specialist, BOCES as TASC Chief Examiner. She was also employed by the City of Poughkeepsie as a Certified Teachers Assistant and a Substitute Teacher.

In 1985, she was welcomed into the Poughkeepsie Neighborhood Club, Inc. as a Federation member. She has served in various positions with the Empire State Federated Women's Club, Inc; Executive Board Chair, Second Vice President and Board Recording Secretary. She also served as Secretary for the Northeast Federation Women's Club, Inc.

The members of the Poughkeepsie Neighborhood Club Inc. elected her President, where she faithly served in that position from 1998-2018.

Magary also served as the Ladies Auxiliary President of the Poughkeepsie Exempt Fireman.

Magary developed her passion for volunteering and serving the community by working with these organizations. Her most vital role was to continue to assist in planning, promoting and presenting all future endeavors of the said organizations. Magary lived by the mantra" If I can help somebody, then my living shall not be in vain."

Magary was a member of the Beulah Baptist Church, Poughkeepsie, NY, under Bishop Rev. Jessie V. Bottoms, Jr. While there she served as an Assistant Youth Supervisor, assisting the Youth Choir and she also served on the Building Together Committee.

Magary was predeceased by her parents, David and Magary Nixon; her brothers, David Jr., Thomas, Robert, Eugene and Benjamin.

She leaves the fondest of memories with; Gererd her husband; her children Celena and Michael; her step-children, Jeffery and Kimberly Blythe; grandchildren Desiree, Davone, Michael, Michelle, Mikayla, Gab and Anthony; sisters Valerie, Deborah, Lisa, Vanessa, Phyllis and her husband Charlie. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
