Margaret Thornton

Margaret Thornton, “Peggy” of Ellenville, passed away on July 29, 2013 at her home. She was 87. Margaret was born January 24, 1926 in Ellenville; she was the daughter of Frederick and Mary Elizabeth (Green) Gutekunst and the widow of Earl W. Thornton, Sr.

Peggy and Earl were married in 1947 following his return from the war. She was the treasurer for the family business, Thornton Electric. Mrs. Thornton was a member of the Ellenville United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #253, The Ellenville Noonday Club, the National Imperial Glass Collectors Society of Ohio, the Hudson Valley Depression Glass Club of Walden and the American Legion Auxiliary of Wurtsboro. Peggy and Bucky enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Upon their retirement they enjoyed many years of travel by car around the United States and cruises around the world.

Mrs. Thornton is survived by her daughter, Sandra Green and her husband Fredric of Middletown; her son, Earl Thornton II and his wife Karen of Spring Glen; her grandchildren, Amy Zupetz and her husband Michael of Bloomingburg, Peter Green and his wife Jenna of Middletown and Matthew Green of Scottsdale, AZ; her great-grandsons, Colby and Trevor Zupetz; her great-granddaughter Isabella Green; her sisters, Leonora Bedford, Anna Norton and Fredericka Harding as well as many nieces and nephews.

Margaret was predeceased by her sister Mary Giguere.

Memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 6^th from 5-8 pm at Loucks Funeral Home, 79 N. Main St., Ellenville. A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7^th at 11 am at Fantinekill Cemetery.

The family would like to thank mom’s longtime caregivers Margaret, Barbara and Marilda for their dedication to our mother’s care and well being. We would also like to thank the Ellenville First Aid and Rescue Squad for their invaluable service.
