IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marilyn J.
Smith
October 15, 1934 – January 27, 2026
Marilyn J. Smith
Mairlyn Smith (known as ‘Honey’ when she was growing up), a lifelong resident of Napanoch, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Ellenville Regional Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on October 15, 1934 in Ellenville to Clarence (Tan) Wilhelm and Ruth Watt Wilhelm.
While raising her family was her first priority, she spent many hours volunteering at Ellenville Hospital. She worked at the lunch counter at Grants and Jamesway. She was also a short order cook at Charlotte’s Diner in Ellenville. She has been a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Napanoch for 76 years. Many of you may have benefitted from her knitting passions by having a pair of slippers she made.
She is predeceased by her husband, Willard E. (‘Bill’) Smith; she is survived by her brother, John Wilhelm (and wife Joan); her three sons: Mark (and wife Debbie), Keith, and Paul; grandsons: Jesse, Tyler, and Bryce; granddaughter, Sara Gross (and husband Jared); her great-granddaughter, Quinn; and numerous nieces and nephews, including John Willhelm and Allison Wilhelm.
She will be dearly missed by all the members of the Great Napanoch Telephone Grapevine.
Marilyn’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Ellenville Hospital. Their kindness and care are so greatly appreciated.
Per her wishes, there will not be a funeral. There will be a graveside prayer service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to: St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 35 Church Street, Napanoch, NY 12458.
