Obituary

Melissa Ann DePuy, age 47, of Ellenville, New York, passed away on October 3, 2026.

Melissa was born on September 22, 1979, in Harris, New York, to Mike and Candace DePuy.

Melissa was truly a beautiful soul. She was compassionate, loving, grateful, fierce, and wonderfully stubborn. She had a strength about her that could not be missed and a heart that touched the lives of so many people. Melissa loved deeply, worked hard, and valued the people and animals who became part of her world.

For many years, Melissa worked at the Pine Bush Post Office, where she formed many friendships and became a familiar and cherished presence to those around her. When she wasn’t working, you could often find her doing something she loved—writing or spending time with her beloved fur babies. Some of her happiest moments were simply snuggling with Sully, Finn, and Greta.

Melissa is survived by her loving mother, Candace DePuy; her siblings, Amanda DePuy, Kimberly DePuy, and Jason DePuy (Sevaira); her nephew, Thomas DePuy; her nieces, Freedom Ragland and Maggie Ragland; as well as her aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and many friends who will miss her deeply.

She was predeceased by her father, Mike DePuy; her sister, Sheelah Marie; and her beloved fur babies, Hefy, Tyedye, and Pilly.

Hefy held an especially precious place in Melissa’s heart, and those who loved her find comfort in imagining that he was the very first to greet her at the Rainbow Bridge. Tyedye and Pilly were surely close behind, welcoming her home with the kind of love only our beloved animals can give.

Melissa’s life was far too short, but the love she gave, the words she wrote, the friendships she built, and the memories she created will remain with those who knew and loved her. Her beautiful, fierce spirit will not be forgotten.

A celebration of Melissa’s life will be announced at a future date.

On behalf of the staff of Loucks Funeral Home, it is a privilege to care for Melissa and to honor the beautiful life she shared with so many. Our hearts are with her family, friends, and all who loved her, and we hope the memories of her fierce spirit, loving heart, and gentle presence bring comfort in the days ahead.
