Rafael Luis Santiago,80, was called home unexpectedly on December 27th, passing peacefully in his home of natural causes. While his time with us feels far too short, we trust that God’s timing is perfect, and that Rafael now rests in eternal peace.

For over 65 years, Rafael worked as a carpenter, using the gifts God gave him to build, restore, and care for homes in Ellenville. His hands were strong, his heart was humble, and his work was done with quiet pride and purpose. Through his craft, he served others, often without recognition, leaving behind a legacy built on faith, dedication, and love.

Rafael shared 55 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Gladys Castillo. Together they built not just a home, but a family rooted in devotion and grace. He is survived by his son, Kevin Santiago, Nilsa Velez, Efrain Ruiz, Ruben Irizarry and his treasured grandchildren, Joyce, Joan, Kim, Celina, Kevin, Frances, Felix, EJ, Ineshea and many more grandchildren and great grandchildren each a living testament to the love he poured so generously into his life.

Known to all as “Rafa,” he had a joyful spirit and a gift for laughter. His jokes brought smiles, and his laughter lifted hearts. Yet beyond the humor was a man of deep kindness, one who would stop whatever he was doing to help another. He lived his life always humble, always giving, and always just a phone call away.
