Richard L. Smith

May 21, 1938 — April 7, 2015

Richard “Richie” L. Smith entered into eternal rest on April 7, 2015. He was 76 years old. He was the son of the late Evelyn and Ernest Smith, born on May 21, 1938.

 

A man of strong faith, he was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Napanoch. Richie was a former member of the National Guard and a retired Correctional Officer with Eastern Correctional Facility.

 

Survivors include his three children; Richard W. Smith and his fiancé Carla Churchill, Karen Berger and her husband Robert, Michael Smith and his wife Maria. He is also survived by three brothers and two sisters; Willard and Marilyn Smith, Robert and Charlotte Smith and Valerie Goetschius all of Napanoch, Warren and Patty Smith of Middletown and Mary and Don Sayut of West Hurley. Seven grandchildren; Karen, Jacquelyn, Stephanie, Mathew, Sarah and Zachary Smith and Lucas Berger. Four great grandchildren; Julianna Flores, Aubree and Brayden LeBron and Hayley Giammichele. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

 

Richard was predeceased by his wife Joyce Smith.

 

A family statement reads, “Richie was our best friend, our rock. He was a selfless man who cherished his family and loved unconditionally. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.”

 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 10th at 10am at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 68 Clinton St., Napanoch, NY with burial immediately following at Fantinekill Cemetery.

 

Memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church 35 Church St., Napanoch, NY 12458
