Robert W "Bob" Constant

October 18, 1925 — January 4, 2017

Robert W. Constant, of Ellenville, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Orange Regional Medical Center. He was 91.

He was born on October 18, 1925 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Ellenville, NY to Ira and Gertrude McDole Constant.

Robert retired as a New York State corrections officer in 1977 after 28 years. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Alaska from 1944 to 1946. He was an honorary life member and past Commander of The American Legion, Cook-Taylor Post #111, a member of the VFW Post #8959, a president of the Ulster Heights Beagle Club, past Assistant Director of the International Carriage-Royals Travel Trailer Club, past Warden and Trustee at St. John’s Episcopal Church and owner and operator of Constant & Sons Trucking.

His musical talents earned him a seat as a trumpeter in Clayton’s Military Marching and Concert Band at the age of 8. He continued to play with the band until its demise in the mid 1960’s. He formed a Boy Scout Drum & Bugle Corps for Troop 28 B.S.A Ellenville, which later were known as The Imperial Guardmen. He was the Corps Director from 1966 to 1973. He also marched and played baritone for the 20th Century Limited Senior Drum & Bugle Corps in Highland. Bob enjoyed life with his family, especially hunting small game with his sons, as well as snow-mobiling and traveling with his wife.

He is predeceased by his wife of 66 years June Caston Constant. He leaves behind his 4 sons and their wives: Richard & Charlene Constant of Greenfield Park, Russell & Lillian Constant of Roscoe, Jeffery & Penny Constant of Neversink and Gary Constant and Janet Dechick of Queensbury; grandchildren: Jaclyn Day (Darin) Heather Eddings (Rich), Christopher Constant (Kendra), Jesse Wall (Sarah), Jason Constant and Rachel Vaughn (Nick); and great-grandchildren: Brody and Lauren Day, Riley and Audrey Eddings, Dayne and Finnegan Wall and Jayce Constant.

Memorial contributions in Bob's name can be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 40 Market St. Ellenville, NY 12428

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 9, 2017 from 4 to 8pm at Loucks Funeral Home, 79 N. Main St. Ellenville, NY 12428. An American Legion service will be held at 4:30pm on Monday at the funeral home.  A funeral service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 40 Market St. Ellenville, NY on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 11am. Burial to follow at Fantinekill with full Military honors.
