Obituary

Rosalie Marie Sherry, 93, of Ellenville, NY passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2026. Rosalie, lovingly known as "Sissy" to most, was born on September 6, 1932 in Ellenville, NY to Hugh J. Kelly and Helen R. (Taylor) Kelly.

Sissy graduated from Ellenville High School and attended Brockport University. She returned to Ellenville and married Joseph Donald Sherry, the love of her life, and remained a resident of Ellenville for the remainder of her life.

Sissy was devoted and protective of her family. The family property and farm have always remained dear to her heart. She held various jobs in her life, one of which was, if Kelly Sand and Gravel was short-handed, she was told she needed to drive one of the dump trucks. So she did.

Sissy was a lifelong member of St. Mary's and St. Andrew's Catholic Church. She had a beautiful voice and was known for singing at church weddings as well as outside events. She was a past member of the Wawarsing Town Zoning Board of Appeals, and a member of the Kerhonkson/Accord Seniors Group, and often was the driver to many events.

Sissy was never one to sit idle; her car wheels were always turning. She loved visiting friends and family, always with a helping hand. She was a loved and trusted friend to so many of all ages, and many of those turned into lifelong friendships. She was also the family historian, with an amazing memory and always had amazing stories to tell.

Rosalie was predeceased by her parents, Hugh and Helen; her husband, Donald; her siblings: brothers, Benny, Billy, Barney, and sister, Grace Anne; as well as her nephews, Artie and Mike Kelly.

She is survived by her children: Dona (Brian) Tamoney of Boca Raton, FL, Joseph (Valerie) of Ellenville, and James (Linda) of Ellenville; grandchildren, Kelly (Dave) McWhinney, Tara (Jaafar) Choufani, Christopher Tamoney, Katelyn Sherry, Andrew (Austin) Sherry, and Jennifer Sherry; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Mallory McWhinney, Jack and Alexandra Choufani, and Willa Sherry. She is also survived by nieces and a nephew, among them one special niece, Grace Kelly Kennedy.

Visitation will take place on Friday, July 10 from 4 - 7 PM at Loucks Funeral Home in Ellenville. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 11 at St. Mary's and St. Andrew's Church in Ellenville at 9:30 AM, followed by interment at Fantinekill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers Rosalie's family requests donations be made to Hospice of Ulster County (Hudson Valley Hospice www.hvhospice.org)
