Vernon "Jake" Schwab

Vernon “Jake” Schwab, Jr., passed away on August 23, 2022 at White Plains Center for Nursing Care. He was 80 years old. Jake was born on March 29, 1942 in Ellenville, NY; he was the son of Vernon Stedner Schwab and Myrtle (Donnelly) Schwab.

Jake worked for the Department of Public Works out of Ulster Heights in Ellenville for 40 years. He was an Associate Member of the Cragsmoor Fire Department for 34 years. Jake was a flagger for OCFS for over 20 years, as well as a flagger for the Accord Speedway for several years. Jake was also a member of the Ellenville Elks Lodge 1971 and the Sons of the American Legion Cook Taylor Post III.

Many of you will remember Jake working as a doorman for Loucks Funeral Home. Jake was very dedicated to his church the Ellenville Assembly of God, where he served a term as a councilman as was also a greeter.

Jake loved races of all kinds especially NASCAR. He was also a Mets fan and a Giants fan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Marcella “Marcy” (Quinn) Schwab whom he married on November 27, 1976; his son, Jason Schwab (Dara Mason); his brother, Peter Schwab (Theresa); his sisters, Pat Joray (John), Barbara Schwab, Mary Schwab, Terrie Farkas (Pete) and Nikki Traphagen, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, Jake was also predeceased by his son, John Schwab.

As per Jake’s wishes there will be no visitation. A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 3^rd  with a celebration of his life immediately following at the Ellenville Assembly of God Church with Pastor Brenda Cates presiding.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Jake’s name to the Ellenville First Aid and Rescue Squad, the Cragsmoor Fire Department or the Ellenville Assembly of God Church.
