Maryellen Guba

March 28, 1962 — February 7, 2021

Maryellen Guba

March 28, 1962 – February 7, 2021

Maryellen passed away on Sunday February 7, 2021 at Montefiore Hospital of natural causes with her family at her side.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Edward Guba and her loving son Nicholas, both of Pine Bush, NY. Her parents, Robert G. Burns Sr. and Kathleen G. (Farrell) Burns of Milford Pa., her sister Patti Burns and husband Ken Ennist of Hollywood Beach, Florida, her sister, Kate Burns and husband Scott Pepper of Milford Pa., and her brother Robert (Bobby) G. Burns Jr. and wife Christine of Brooklyn, NY.

Maryellen was born in Rockville Centre, NY on March 28, 1962 and grew up in Long Island with her siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. Her family later moved to upstate New York where she attended and graduated from Ellenville Central High School. Upon graduating in 1980 she attended The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY and earned a degree in education. She went on to complete her Masters in Special Education at SUNY New Paltz. Maryellen taught for 33 years at the Ellenville Central School District until her retirement in 2017. There she served as the President, Vice-President and Treasurer for the ETSRPA Union, as well as several negotiating teams. Maryellen was not only a dedicated, talented and gifted teacher but she was a dear aunt to niece Alexandra Pepper, her nephews and godsons Robert G Burns III and Cal A. Pepper, nephew Michael P. Burns Sr., and her great nephew Michael P. Burns Jr., who adoringly called her “Mim”. Maryellen took great joy and pleasure in spoiling all of them. Nothing made her happier than being with her family, and friends. She was a dedicated teacher and continued to foster relationships beyond the classroom doors, becoming a godmother to several of her student's children. Maryellen was greatly admired and will be missed by all those she loved and showed her kindness to.
